The Grief Center website:

The Grief Center (formerly, the Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico) provides free support groups for young people ages 5 – 25 who’ve had a loved one die.  We’ve been doing this since 2001 in the Albuquerque area.   The death of a parent or sibling is one of the most traumatic events a child can experience; however, most of us lack the tools needed to help young people address their grief adequately.   Without appropriate support, grieving kids often experience severe emotional isolation that can negatively affect their ability to reach their full potential at home, in school and in their communities.

Camp Corazon is a high-energy busy day that provides a unique opportunity for kids who have lost a loved one to share feelings and memories with other kids who’ve been through something similar.  Camp Corazon provides grieving children with age-appropriate coping skills that will help them manage grief in their day-to-day lives, even after they leave.

We need your help! Let’s spread the word about this unique opportunity for grieving kids.  Please share with us your knowledge and ideas about the best way to reach bereaved families in your community.  We also need volunteers to help at camp – as Big Buddies (working and camping side by side with each kid), Activity Leaders and in special support roles (help with meals, arts and crafts).  We would be happy to schedule a time to provide an informational presentation to potential referral makers and families in your area. And for whatever help and information you can give – Mil Gracias – you’ve helped heal a child’s grieving heart.
